Chemical control is normally ineffective because of extreme overlapping of generations within the pest with little or no effect on target life stages of the pest.
Attempts were made using systemic insecticides (granular Carbofuran or slow release Carbosulfan) mainly on newly hatched young larvae. Applied to cases of 8-20 weeks old canes during the wet season at RAMU in 1988 gave good control. However chemical control were poor and erratic in subsequent years. The dangerous side effect of the outbreak of Cicadia epidemic in the same year worsened the matter. which affected the population of ant which fed on nymphs of Cicadia.

Pheromones Baits
A ratio of 3:2 of (z)-11--hexadecenyl acetate and (z)-11-hexadecenol was proposed by Whittle et al. (1995), which is used to attract adults in traps.
